Record Production

Sarah’s 11 track debut album is a Christian album with a difference. Think folk and Electronic music mashed together to create what we call… FOLKONICA!!

Sarah, Dan and Matt Weeks played everything apart from drums played by Ed Carlile. Mixed by Juha Jantti in Helsinki, Finland. Mastered by Svante Forsback at Chartmakers.

In a typical production process the music will evolve from the orignal demo recordings to the final recording. So often particular instruments/performances/sounds of the original demo sounds can’t be replicated but they made the sound so cool. During our time of sculpting the vibe of Sarah’s songs we tried to “record to keep” all and any textures, beats, vocal groups/ideas or extractions that just had that unique irreplaceable vibe!

Its always an honour to be asked directly by the artist to produce their own music, especially when the songs are cool! And there is no exceptions in the latest set of songs from Nick and Becky Drake. This is now the third album we’ve produced for them… and if anyone thinks they were good… well, this album is going to be much much better!

After a week of pre production up in Barnes we took the production down to The Old Chapel to track the core instrumentation. The three day session was tip top. Highlight for all… microwave scrambled eggs!

It was clear from pre production that the pop vibe was calling for a change up in the players this time round. Jerry Brown (Girls Aloud, Jamelia) on kit. Tom Mills on elec gtr, Willie, Dan and Matt Weeks providing bass, synths, beats and loops etc. The results are already dazzling. We’ll keep you posted on the albums release!!

15 Kids & Counting is the new sequel series following on from My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. Its a three-part series exploring the lives of some of the UK’s biggest families. Directed by legendary director Jon Richards, produced by LionTV and of course commissioned by Channel 4.

WORKING

weeksweeksweeks™ was delighted to welcome Leon back to the studio for more exploration and development. His recent gig at the Half Moon Putney proved the songs were working well, the fans definitely enjoyed the new style and sound. Check videos of Leon’s Half Moon performance ….

The boys piled into Studio 1 at Badger Cottage to focus on arranging and styling the tracks to suit the direction that Leon is heading in.

A few compositions Leon co-wrote in LA hit the production table along with previous compositions from weeksweeksweeks™ that Leon has already performed live.

PLAYING

A day at weeksweeksweeks™ Studio 1 is never complete without invitation to partake in a football game at St Jack’s Park. Neighbours, Norwegians, guests and family can regularly be seen playing!! Some people however.. get to help with ground keeping!

Red Team Go Design

The artwork for Finnish singer/ songwriter Nina Åström was designed by Red Team Go. South African based Red Team member Russell Grant joined forces with London based music production house, and Red Team members weeksweeksweeks. This is the second album to come out of this harmonious partnership. A working relationship that funny enough, all started with Russell Grant and Dan Weeks as strangers meeting on plane from Helsinki to Amsterdam. After an hour sipping on mini whisky bottles, the two exchanged business cards and parted ways in Schipol .

After staying in contact for well over a year, Russell Grant showed the company the work completed for João Orecchia’s 2009 album Hands and Feet. At this point, they joined the Red Team Go community, with many exciting Red Team Go projects immediately put into development. As a result of the Red Team Go network, weeksweeksweeks are now able to offer the additional service of album artwork to the artists they produce and record. Dan Weeks has also since gone on to become an important part of the Red Team Go’s infrastructure. Russell Grant on the other hand gets another great album cover in the portfolio, and not to mention the bragging rights for having designed for an artist with cool european characters in her name.

The Review

It is strikingly obvious that Åström’s new found sound and tensions in the music have clearly given life to greater dynamic vocal performance. This collection of songs are bound together by the steadfast nature of Åström’s lyrical delivery, whilst clearly making bold moves to explore her tonal range. Her experience to lead the band and its music from behind the microphone is evident, her command of the melody and lyrical journey in each song wrestles the very core of each song’s musical purpose, allowing both music and vocal the space to breathe.

Åstrom is completely at one with the music world around her, songs like Leaving On A Jet Plane, Keep You Company and Autumn Chant leave us in no doubt that she commands the listeners ear in much the same way as a Linda Ronstadt, EmmyLou Harris or Sarah McLachlan record. The moments of sonic beauty and soulfulness are reminiscent of more recent Daniel Lanois, while others may be drawn by the Rufus Wainwright and recent Robert Plant approach and there are parts that approach the terrain of early Peter Gabriel.

“The Way We Are” is proof that, for some artists, the more you make, the better you get at it. This is Nina’s 10th album…

“The Way We Are” was recorded & produced by Dan Weeks and Matt Weeks in London during 2009. The album features musical supporting roles from Jason Carter (Harp Guitar), Terl Bryant (John Paul Jones, Faith Hill), Ed Carlile (The Jersey Boys, M.Redman) and Mark Edwards (Carleen Anderson).

In his DEBUT race Dan Weeks (weeksweeksweeks™) stunned children and parents of Chalfont St Giles Junior school coming in 1 st place! Lanes in this particular race are hard to come by, local parents, govenors and veterans of the school can be seen jostling for a lane, the banter crude with testosterone levels energising the “BUZZ” in the warm ups.

School Houses Yellow and Green were tied going into this all important Dad’s Race. Victory for Green would pull them into first and land them 1st place overall House victory.

The Badger Session Prt 1

2009 – Leon heard the weeksweeksweeks™ production of Kris Morris’s latest release “I Think We Both Know”.
Few months later Jackson was eager to get some similar production “intervention”, a few calls later we all piled over to Studio No.1 at Badger Cottage…

As the November winter kicked up at storm, the boys camped out at weeksweeksweeks’ No.1 studio for three days.
Making the time to listen to the stories, find the emotion and vibe… and late night runs up steep hills!

Pushing forward with the new direction in lyrics and music style the boys managed to get 8 new songs up and running.
