London Dzaleka is a musical journey telling the story of two people in different worlds on the same small planet.

THE STORY

In 2010 Steve carried guitars from London to a refugee camp called Dzaleka in one of the poorest countries in the world, Malawi. he met with Innocent, who owned nothing but time, until he was sponsored to study outside the refugee camp, and his work began. Steve had retired early and had time to help Innocent start a guitar school. Inno had lived for his first 27 years in refugee camps in Congo, Zambia, Tanzania, and Malawi. Through the gift of music and education, Inno escaped the camp to found a charity to help these refugees.

Through the language of music Inno and Steve instantly connected between London and Dzaleka; two places that share a cosmopolitan multi-lingual vibe. But one place is influential while the other is without voice. This CD can allow you to take a journey starting in Dzaleka, where a simple guitar expresses their shared praise to a shared God, and back to London where Innocent came in 2010 and recorded two of his African songs produced and accompanied by the Weeks family behind the band, “Our Dad“.

WORKING

weeksweeksweeks™ was delighted to welcome Leon back to the studio for more exploration and development. His recent gig at the Half Moon Putney proved the songs were working well, the fans definitely enjoyed the new style and sound. Check videos of Leon’s Half Moon performance ….

The boys piled into Studio 1 at Badger Cottage to focus on arranging and styling the tracks to suit the direction that Leon is heading in.

A few compositions Leon co-wrote in LA hit the production table along with previous compositions from weeksweeksweeks™ that Leon has already performed live.

PLAYING

A day at weeksweeksweeks™ Studio 1 is never complete without invitation to partake in a football game at St Jack’s Park. Neighbours, Norwegians, guests and family can regularly be seen playing!! Some people however.. get to help with ground keeping!

Album Production – Fred Applequist

weeksweeksweeks™ & Swedish artist Fred Applequist have been working together on new material for his new album. Tracking at studios in London & Sweden. The album is set to be a blinder, the style suggests a subtle blend of J.Cash, P.Floyd and stunning performances and incredible grooves from some great players.

So far the session has been immense. Whilst tracking at Olympic Studios we found ourselves on the receiving end of an unfortunate double booking!! This freak accident was made even more crazy by the fact it was with the legend that still is Eric Clapton!! The peoples at Olympic kindly relocated us in for the day to.. Abbey Road.

Accompanied by our team of engineers, Mo Hausler and Miikka Huttunen we pushed off to the most famous recording studio in the world! It was a Sunday and the place was empty.. After the first hour of small tours and tales form the staff it was down to business. Studio 2 at our disposal Studio 1 & 3 empty, two extra engineers assisting and delivering us trollies of mics from the largest collection in Europe. A few class moments, Fred singing into John Lennon’s favourite microphone and the discovery of beer taps in the studio canteen.

After a long day, the musical results were stonking and all of us clocked out with a satisfactory tiredness. We left A.R with a hard disk full of Studio 2 to locate a few chairs – cold beers and a lengthy discussion ensued. Conclusion. Although shrouded, steeped and dripping in rock music history, it was one band that “made” Abbey Road. Until demolished or turned into a Tesco, Olympic studios is the bomb.

However, as many of you will know well know since Feb ’09 Olympic Studio was shut down. Although fully booked its annual profit margin was… just too small. On the day Terra Firma served notice to the studios employees to close the building the world’s fattest rock act, U2 were in the middle of a 3 month recording stint occupying the whole building….doh!
